Can Taking Calcium Remineralize Teeth

Calcium is a most important and abundant mineral in your body, present mainly in bones and teeth. It is also necessary for the impulse conduction of your nerve so that you can walk, run etc. So for your every activities calcium is needed. If you don't take enough calcium from the diet, your body will take it from your bones and teeth ( demineralization ) which will weakens them. So taking calcium makes your teeth and bone strong. But calcium supplements alone cant remineralize teeth that has lost its calcium.

What Is Tooth Decay?

Just like bones teeth also undergo a continuous process of mineralization (building up) and demineralization. When demineralization exceeds mineralization, the enamel which protects your teeth's inner soft part is damaged. Your enamel is damaged by acids, which leads to loss of minerals from the tooth such as calcium and phosphorous. Dental caries, commonly known as cavities develops when protective outer layer of tooth enamel become thinner or disappear.

Fluoride and calcium to remineralize teeth

Fluoride and calcium is necessary to remineralize teeth. A healthy amount of calcium ensures that you have all the essential components in your saliva to help remineralize enamel. It is always best to get nutrients from food. Dietary calcium intake is a main part of preventing teeth cavities

Toothpaste to remineralize teeth

Remineralizing toothpaste can contain phosphorous, calcium and other nutrients which can release them and can bind to the tooth surface and can help to remineralize tooth. Remineralizing toothpaste can also decrease tooth hyper sensitivity, it can whiten teeth, it can also increase the uptake of fluoride into the plaque to fight against cavities and can improve the smoothness of tooth surface.

Other factors

The other important factors are reduce using soft drinks, soda and citrus juice. Soft drinks can reduce the pH of your mouth which can demineralize your teeth. Teeth can be demineralized at a pH 5.5 or less. After drinking soda The pH of your mouth is reduced to 3 to 4 and takes almost 20 minutes to reach the normal value which can also demineralize teeth
So in addition to maintaining adequate calcium and phosphorous, reduce your soft drink, soda and citrus juice intake to help protect your teeth and remineralize teeth
