Most dental problems can be easily prevented and treated.
Some common dental problems are:-
Bad breath:
It is
common for most people and suffer occasionally. It is better to consult your
dentist if it becomes permanent. Bad breath is usually due to the breakdown of
proteins by bacteria somewhere in the mouth. Food debris and plaque are the
major causes for the faculty. So brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
to remove food debris and plaque. Other points to remember are brush your
tongue, use floss or an inter dental cleaner once a day to clean between teeth.
If you wear removable dentures, take them out at night. Clean them before replacing them the next morning.
Tooth decay:
The
most common problem is the tooth decay. The bacteria that normally resides in
the mouth feed on food sugars and starches and produce an acid. This acid
destroys enamels and damage the the tooth.
Gum disease:
Gum
disease is also called periodontal disease. It is the infection of the gum. It
affects the tooth socket, gums (gingiva) and periodontal ligaments. Causative
organism is bacterial plaque, mucous and food debris that constantly forms on
the teeth. In order to prevent gum disease you should brush regular and
proper along with good dental hygiene.
Tooth erosion:
Acidic foods and drugs that
dissolve away the surface of the tooth are the main causes of the tooth
erosion. The erosion increases especially due to great consumption of fizzy
drinks. The best way to prevent tooth erosion is to avoid acidic foods and
drinks from your diet.
Tooth sensitivity:
Tooth sensitivity is the wearing away of the tooth surface or gum
tissue associated with tooth pain. They feel discomfort from sweets, cold air,
hot drinks, cold drinks or ice cream. Some
people even experience discomfort on brushing and flossing. This can be
treated successfully. You can try with brush-on fluoride gel or a fluoride
rinse and low-abrasion toothpastes with formulations. Now there are various
methods to remineralise your teeth.
Mouth sores:
There are different types of sores. They can occur at inner cheeks, gums,
tongue, lips, palate or anywhere in the mouth. They generally last for 10 to 14
days and even last up to 6 weeks. Mouth sores usually can treated successfully.
Gargle with cool water or eat popsicles, avoid hot beverages and foods, spicy
and salty foods, and citrus. It is better to take pain relievers like
pacetaminophen.
There could be also dental emergencies like severe tooth
ache, which the patient should consult a dentist immediately.
