Worried about bad breath???

                      WORRIED ABOUT BAD BREATH???

More than 70% of teens say bad breath is an instant turnoff. About 85% say it's the most important thing to avoid when meeting someone for the first time.
Millions of bacteria live in the mouth, particularly on the back of the tongue. In many people, they are the primary causes of bad breath. The mouth's warm, moist conditions are ideal for the growth of these bacteria. Most bad breath is caused by something in the mouth.
Fortunately, there are simple and effective ways to freshen your breath.

1. Frequent brushing and flossing

Plaque, the sticky build-up on teeth that harbors bacteria, is the main cause of bad breath. Food left between teeth adds to the problem. Its essential to brush at least twice a day and floss daily.  But don't overdo it. Brushing too aggressively can erode enamel, making your teeth more vulnerable to decay.

2. Foods to be avoided

Certain foods, especially ones like garlic and onions that contain pungent oils, can contribute to bad breath because the oils are carried to your lungs and out through your mouth. So its true that bad breath from garlic is not caused mainly from the bacteria, but from the garlic itself. The only way to avoid the problem is to avoid eating onions and garlic, especially before social or work occasions when you're concerned about your breath. The other offenders are alcohol and tobacco which should be avoided

3. Tongue scraper

Tongue scrapers are an essential tool in a proper oral health care routine. The coating that normally forms on the tongue can harbor foul-smelling bacteria. To eliminate them, gently brush your tongue with your toothbrush. Some people find that toothbrushes are too big to comfortably reach the back of the tongue. In that case, try a tongue scraper. They're designed specifically to apply even pressure across the surface of the tongue area, removing bacteria, food debris, and dead cells that brushing alone can’t remove.

4. Smoking

Smoking does not cause bad breath just because of the unpleasant smell of smoke that has been in the mouth and the respiratory tract. Smokers are more likely to suffer from gum disease and other dental problems which cause bad breath. Bad breath is just one of many reasons not to smoke.

5. Keep your mouth clean

In addition to freshening your breath, anti-bacterial mouthwashes add extra protection by reducing plaque-causing bacteria. After eating, swishing your mouth with plain water also helps freshen your breath by eliminating food particles.

6. Chewing Gum

Excercising the teeth and jaws by chewing on a sugarless gum after eating, increases saliva flow in the mouth and helps speed up the process of washing away acid and swishing around the calcium and phosphates in saliva. It also helps in remineralizing teeth.

Bad breath makes you self conscious and embarressed. Healthy mouth is more than just clean teeth, its also the portal to a healthy body.
